THE BREEZY BLOG
Lucky. That's what I felt on this trip! I went with my friend and we stayed in a new town every night. Each night after we left whatever town we were in, we missed terrible weather like windstorms, rain, etc. We got so lucky and we saw so many rainbows! Can't wait to tell you about the yummy coffee shops we found along the way. We only stopped by #1 rated by the locals and didn't settle for anything less! Prepare for the picture overload...you may want to grab some popcorn, ENJOY! Just an overview of the beauty in the Pacific North West! Let's start from the beginning now... Orange County to Portland, Oregon! Check out the cute 4x4 rental! We were starving and used Yelp to find the best rated restaurants which led us to this hole in the wall place in Woodland, WA called America's Family Diner. The food was delicious and even though it was lunch time, I just HAD to get breakfast...yumm! Astoria, ORThere was rain and fog basically the entire drive from Portland to Astoria. We still got to see some cool stuff like log trucks...it smelled so good outside with all the wet logs! Also, we met a little friend on our way up to the Column. The sky did not cooperate so unfortunately you can not tell that the Astoria Column is on a hill and the view would have been nice! Seaside, ORClick on the photos below to view gallery: We arrived to Seaside and were looking forward to going on the Carousel (my friend LOVES carousels). Little did we know, that night there was a Chamber of Commerce event so the rides were free and they had food from local restaurants, hot cider & more! After that, we headed over to our hotel (the view was breathtaking in the morning, shown in picture above), baked some cookies & relaxed by the fireplace. Ecola State Park & Cannon Beach, ORClick on the photos below to view gallery: Ecola State Park was so GREEN!! Such a gorgeous drive through there. After that, we stopped by Cannon Beach to see Haystack Rock...I didn't think it would be that huge! Also, didn't think it would feel 20 degrees on a beach lol I had a coat, scarf and gloves to keep warm! This was one of my favorite (and my friend's favorite) coffee spots...the Sleepy Monk Coffee Roasters. Click on photos below to view gallery: Rockaway Beach & Tillamook Bay, ORClick on the photos below to view gallery: We made a pit stop at Rockaway Beach to photograph Twin Rocks...so calm and beautiful! Tillamook Bay was definitely a peak for me. Tillamook Cheese Factory, crisp weather, stunning skies, Cape Meares Lighthouse, more yummy coffee...the list goes on!!! Click on photos below to view gallery: Five Rivers Coffee Roasters was my favorite coffee spots!! Iced Hazelnut Coffee please! They also had a chalkboard so I left my mark with their permission of course ;) #breezyonthego Check out the slideshow below of our next stop...the lighthouse! We asked the barista directions to Cape Meares Lighthouse and he started doing hand motions of bumpy roads and said when you see an orange sign make a right then if you see a farm make a left LOL My favorite directions from a local...ever!! I still laugh about this because he was being so serious! This lighthouse was so magical...I wish I could explain it better but you just have to go yourself! After the lighthouse, we made our way over to Lincoln City and we were starving! Of course we "yelped" and found this gem...Hearth & Table. No pepperoni at this place...weird right? Lincoln City & Salem, ORThis was on the side of the road from Lincoln City to Salem...so much water and greenery! We had to stop by the Salem Riverfront Carousel. It was wet outside and I soaked my shoes (bummer) and had to change into my combat boots! We were bound to find Tree Farms during our trip in beautiful Oregon! We kept seeing these colorful starbursts on the streets because of the rain...so pretty! Hey, that's me in front of Oregon State Capitol in Salem, OR. Mt. Hood/Government Camp, ORWe stayed the night in Government Camp (base of Mt. Hood) in hopes to driving up to Mt. Hood. The roads were bad and chains were required to go up so unfortunately we had to just say hi & bye and skip this adventure this time around. We started driving out toward Columbia River Gorge and ended up in farmland/vineyards and got a beautiful view of Mt Hood! View slideshow below: Columbia River Gorge, ORDisclosure: I woke up with a cold this particular morning but I knew our day was full of water fall sightseeing so I loaded up on meds, water, ginger lemon tea, etc. and felt so much better! Click on photos below to view gallery: We had dinner and enjoyed some coffee & tea fireside! Started our last day at a cute cafe called Joe Brown's Cafe in Vancouver, WA. Then it was off to explore Portland on this gloomy day! We tried getting up to Pittock Mansion but the rain caused some asphalt damage and they blocked the road. Historic Belmont Firehouse pit stop. Quirky Portland for ya! The battle of the donuts! We checked out local favorite Blue Star and tourist favorite Voodoo Doughnut. In my opinion...Blue Star was overpriced but had more sophisticated flavors and Voodoo had fun flavors also much cheaper even though they were pretty big. Famous Powell's Books...over one million books can be found in this store! We came across this beauty, Laurelhurst Park! It was a perfect fall day, so breezy and fresh...perfect way to end the trip before heading to airport! Click on photos below to view gallery: I hope you enjoyed this blog post as much as I did...as I reminisced! :)
