THE BREEZY BLOG
Summer is here which means our skin is prone to breakouts, heat rashes, wrinkles, age spots, overproduction of sebum which can clog pores. So what do we do? We protect our skin by preventing damage! Always great to be proactive, however, if you find yourself needing to treat damage - I got you covered! Summer Damage & Treatments Did you stay out in the sun too long? Scoop out the gel of the aloe vera plant and dilute with 1 cup of cool water. This will sooth sunburns and heat rashes. If you happen to be at Sephora then pick up KORRES After Sun - only $26 for 5 fluid ounces. It's great for the face and body. If you are struggling with the overproduction of sebum (oil), use products with Salicylic Acid, light-gel moisturizers and active charcoal masks. Skincare Routine Please keep in mind that my skin type is oily/combination. I change products all the time according to weather, traveling schedule, etc. Below is what I use every single day in the summer morning & night. However, I only exfoliate 3x/week and sometimes I use different serums to target certain concerns that I'm dealing with. I always remove makeup or dirt off with cotton rounds and Garnier Micellar Water (the one with blue cap since it is gentle yet strong enough to remover waterproof makeup) before cleansing. Assuming you are wearing waterproof makeup for those days at the pool when you just NEED to wear mascara lol. To cleanse, I've been using Dermalogica Essential Cleaning Solution - it contains safflower oil to soften skin as well as rosemary and lemon to refresh. Three times a week I add in the exfoliating step with Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant - it has activated charcoal to pull toxins, Red Algae and Tara Fruit extract to help guard against pollution. For daily gentle use, I use Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant with a cotton round. I wait for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale to purchase the twin pack which is basically two for the price of one! It mimics natural exfoliation to help shed extra layers by unclogging pores. My skin reacts to the sun/heat with blotchy redness everywhere so I found a great product to help with that - Origins Dr. Andrew WEIL Mega Mushroom Relief & Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion. My skin instantly feels refreshed and calm. Lastly, I moisturize! For an added 48-hours of moisture, I use The Body Shop Vitamin E Aqua Boost Essence Lotion then on top of that I add Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream. For around my eyes I use Mario Badescu Hyalouronic Eye Cream. At night, I will finish with Bite Beauty Lip Mask. In the morning I add SkinCeauticals Physical Matte UV Defense with SPF 50. You NEED to wear sunscreen or else you will get discoloration, age spots, etc and it will be hard to reverse that. Hair Care The sun is hitting your scalp which means you get DRY scalp...it's the worst! At least once a week, I exfoliate my scalp with Kiehl's Deep Micro-Exfoliating Scalp Treatment ($20) then follow with Ouai Shampoo "Clean" ($28) for soft, silky hair! In the mornings when there's humidity in the air, I spray Lush Sunny Day ($20.95) to fight frizz and static - the only downside is I'm not a fan of the strong floral scent. Body Care It's not just what we put on our skin, we have to treat it from the inside too! I take Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen (Cucumber Aloe flavor) every morning to help with skin hydration, to improve skin elasticity, and maintain firm skin. It's a blend of collagen, hyaluronic acid, probiotics, organic cucumber, organic pineapple, and aloe vera. The no-flavor one is available at Costco for a much better deal but I purchased mine at Target for $24.99. Thank you so much for stopping by to find out how you can change-up your skincare routine for the summer! Let's be friends on social media!
