THE BREEZY BLOG
A year ago, Roman was born. Our family was excited to meet this sweet & healthy little boy but things quickly changed. My cousin's son, Roman, has spent the past twelve months fighting for a strong & healthy life. Roman was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and pulmonary hypertension with chronic lungs. As he celebrates his first birthday today, he has already gone through three open-heart surgeries, three caths, cardiac arrest and has spent many of his days in medically-induced coma. As I type this, there are at least two more surgeries that will be done in the next month. My cousin Vanessa is such a strong mother and I can't be thankful enough for all of the support that strangers (more like family now) have shown her throughout this journey. Her Sunrise Hospital family and Ronald McDonald House family have welcomed her and Roman in with open arms so she can be near her son daily. HOW I AM HELPING:Ronald McDonald House has provided accommodations so Vanessa can be close to the hospital, they provide transportation to and from the hospital, they provide a family lounge inside the hospital and so much more. While visiting a few months ago, we met a group that was preparing meals at the "house" for families just like my cousin. I was in awe of their generosity to complete strangers. Many of you might know that for my birthday (in November), I get my friends together and give back in lieu of a fancy dinner. Well this year, I have decided to get a group together to provide a dinner service for Ronald McDonald House Orange County in honor of Roman in February 2019 - this is the earliest available date which makes me happy because that means that a ton of other groups are out there doing this! If you are interested in being a part of this group, please email me directly at [email protected] (Subject: RMHC Dinner - I want to Help) and I'll send you the direct sign-up link for the event. HOW YOU CAN HELP PATIENTS LIKE ROMAN: There are so many ways to help even if you can't make it to the February 2019 event! Volunteer by donating money, time & products - whatever you can do is appreciated by so many.
Thank you so much for stopping by to read this story about my family. Roman has a long journey ahead but he has the BEST people taking care of him.
On December 13th, I simply ask you to share his story, sing happy birthday to him from wherever you are and/or say a little prayer for #RomanAbelMacias. God Bless!
