THE BREEZY BLOG
In honor of Marilyn Monroe's 90th birthday, I want to share beauty tips from her famous Makeup Artist Allan "Whitey" Snyder who turned her into America's Beauty Icon! 1. Vaseline for Glowing Skin Marilyn had very dry skin and peach fuzz so Whitey would prep her skin with...Vaseline! It moisturized while giving her a smooth focus on the skin especially when under studio lights. Whitey also used it to highlight her cheekbones, brow bone, and tip of her nose. 2. Heavy Lash Illusion with Eyeshadow This is probably my favorite...Whitey would draw a fake shadow on the end of her lower lash line as if it was a shadow coming from the upper lash. He would do this by using a brown pencil or eyeshadow then filled the gap with white pencil. This way she looked like she had full lashes! 3. Eyelid Depth Illusion with White & Brown Eyeshadows Add white (or lighter than your skin tone) eyeshadow to the entire lid and up to the brow bone then apply a charcoal brown or gray-tone eyeshadow to the just above the crease to create the illusion of more depth on the lid. 4. Contour Lips with Five Layers/Colors For her signature red lips: Line the lips with a deep chocolate brown shade like Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Pencil in 6C . Fill lips in with a matte base like MAC Lip Pencil in Brick. Blend those shades with a bright red like Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella. Highlight center of bottom lip and cupid's bow with something like Benefit Watt's Up Highlighter. Moisturize by topping the entire lip with Rosebud Lip Balm. 5. Contour Nose & Define Cheekbones with Blush Whitey was also know for using blush to contour her nose and define cheekbones. Using a peach/deep color with a matte finish would be perfect, perhaps something like MAC Coppertone Blush. 6. Brown Winged Eyeliner to Widen Eyes Majority of the time, Marilyn was always wearing a brown eyeliner on top. With her blonde hair and fair skin, this was a better option and complimented her well. An inexpensive option is the NYX Gel. 7. Cut Lashes to Extend Eye Shape Once again, Marilyn loved full voluminous lashes so Whitey would cut falsies and only apply them to the corners of her lashline. Lucky for us, Ardell #318's are perfect for this. Best part, is no cutting needed! Allan "Whitey" was a great Makeup Artist...he created the most iconic looks for Marilyn Monroe. Many of the tricks we use today are because of them! She knew what she wanted and he knew what to do to her canvas to make that happen!
